Pre exam post

BrRR...it's 6.11 A.M, around 2 hours and 50 mins to my final paper of this trimester.

New post!!!

My my, it's been 2 weeks plus since my last post. Melissa's already telling me I've not been updating, so here's updates!

My Chinese New Year was normal, as it is every year. However, this year was more fun, thanks to the trips back to Malacca, and also Taiping. Not to mention hordes of relatives and parent's friends coming over, having meals. At the peak of the visits, we had nearly 15 adults in the house, and 3 young babies. When we were back in Gombak, we almost never had visitors. Guess USJ must have some magic pulling power that makes people want to come.

As happy Chinese New Year was, yet there was a certain feeling that someone is missing from among us at the reunion dinner. She used to be the one bustling around the kitchen, cooking, preparing and doing all other odd stuffs to make sure we have at least 6, 7 dishes to eat at the reunion evening. But now, there's a significant empty void beside grandpa, where grandma used to seat when she was very much alive. This is the 2nd new year we celebrated without her presence, and I suppose deep inside every one of us, she is very much still missed.....

On to other stuffs, I've a new toy to play with. *Happy happy*
It's an Ipaq 4150, a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) which I got 2nd hand for a very good bargain. After toying around with it for nearly 2 weeks, I've concluded that this is a great buy, and as I've mentioned to some people, it did increase my productivity, and help filled those time I would've spent fiddling with my phone or staring into the empty space.

Here's a new great song that I've just discovered. Taken from the OST of the movie Closer staring Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen and Julia Roberts, is the song called The blower's daughter by Damien Rice. Check it out, it's soothing, slow and great to listen to! The movie is also worth watching, but of course, it's not here in Malaysia. I suppose you guys might have some idea on where to get it... *wink*

Last but not least, Valentine's day was yesterday, and I suppose it's quite a must for most couples to at least do something during that day. So I went and got a platinum and diamond necklace for my dear, and a bouquet of 24 roses. In return, I received a cute self made card and a ring.
However, instead of conventional gold or silver ring, I got a stainless steel ring instead! I guess the idea of a steel ring is quite cool, although I doubt it's caught on with the public.

I was at Starbucks today when I saw the National Cancer Society Malaysia(NCSM) promoting their campaign in a unique way, using dog tags!(To those who don't know, dog tags are not tags worn by dogs, but tags worn by army personnels which contains their personal information). I find them rather irresistible, and plus all proceeds goes to donation, so I got myself one for RM 12.00. Money quite well spent, since it's after all for donation.
On the tag is written getEducated, and I guess it's pretty clear that we should educate ourselves about cancer to perhaps help prevent it from happening to ourselves, or help the ones that we know that is in potential of having them or actually have cancer.

I had the oppurtunity to witness a procession in Penang, called Chingay. Basically they carry huge tall flags, and walk through Penang town. Various lion dances associations also joined in, delighting the crowd with live performances.

Melting pot of old and new

So says the tagline to promote Pulau Pinang, or Penang Island as known in English. I couldn't agree more. Being a city boy who grew up, of course in the city, and having visited places less developed like..err...Sarawak(?) (No offence to Sarawak people, it's just direct comparison), I'll say that the tagline hits Penang direct on.

For the 1st time, I had the oppurtunity to open my eyes and sense to the beauty and wonders of Penang, and of course to the less beautiful side of it. Previous visits has been a haze, although I do have a picture of me somewhere around the age of 4 or 5 in a snake temple, where there used to be abundant of snakes. My last visits several years ago was a memory of a whole bunch of people, standing around an enclosed area, trying to get a glimpse of what could be a snake. Sigh...

Well, here's my observation of Penang.

1. People honk there...like mad. If you're slow, you get honked. If you don't immediately put the pedal to the metal when the light turns green, you get honked. If you're trying to decide which lane to go because your number plate starts with "W", you get honked. If you...bla bla bla...you get the idea. Ironically, my aunty in another car who's a resident of Penang and drives a car with a plate number starting with P never got honked, although she committed some pretty serious crimes driving around. Talk about statism. :P

2. The roads are tight, and more often than not 1 laned. Thus, you're always side by side with a motorcyclist. And the problem is, they tend to drift to the middle of the road. And when they do, you need to swerve further to the other side of the road to avoid the motorcyclist when you're overtaking him/her. And when that happens, you put yourself in the risk of being banged head-on by the oncoming car.

3. The toilets are clean. Real clean. Heck, even a public toilet at a wet market was clean. Now what does that tell you?

4. There's loads of temples there. 1 here, another 1 there, famous temples everywhere. Temples with statues higher than KLCC (fine fine..I'm exaggerating). But they're handsomely and finely built, that's for sure.

5. The beggars there are really proactive. Heck, they don't wait for you to throw money into their cup. They come and ask you for it. Some are really really persistant. Now that's the spirit!

6. Cemeteries are everywhere. Well, not really, but when they're there, they stretch for miles and miles and miles..(fine fine..I'm exaggerating again). But hey, I guess I'm not that used to seeing cemeteries just right beside the road you're using (except in Malacca, that is)

7. Needless to say, food is available literally at almost every corner of the road. You've just gotta worry if you've got money to pay for it, or not.

Penang's cool, and I think I've added some kilos. A quick check at Carrefour on one of the scales indicated that I'm at the weight I was several months ago. But then again I've not been very conscious about my weight fluctuation. What I know is that I've been eating, and eating, and eating while I was there. :D

Sacrifices & healthy diet

There are times that you'd feel compelled to sacrifice things you really want, just for the sake of a loved one, just to see a smile.

On another note, I've begin my healthy eating campaign. I'm trying to shed some pounds, eat healthly food and exercise, all at 1 go!

To achieve that, my diet now consists of less carbo & fat, and a winter worth supply of nuts, dried fruits, raisins, oats, lean meat,fruits & granola bars. And owh, not to mention my 1st issue of Men's Health, and possibly many more to come.

Let's see how far I can take this, and what I can achieve at the end of 3 months period. Wish me luck guys!

On another sombre note, Chef & Brew is officially out of business in Putrajaya, no thanks to the people there who eats fast food like a religion, even though you pay the same price...

Sigh...it's gone, to a better place, where it's no longer suffering from lack of business. Well actually, it has moved to Damansara Heights, and God knows where that is, but so God help me I shall hunt it down again, and I'll have good food again!

Woops...I'm supposed to be on a healthy diet......
