Tidbits

Do you know that American's astronauts are called astronauts which mean "Star Sailor" and Russian's kosmonaut meant "Sailor of the cosmos". Well I didn't know, just found out today. Naut is originated from the word Naus, which is actually the greek word for sailor.

And the funny thing is, China doesn't know what to call their...err...nauts.

There was several choices or suggestion...

"Chinanaut, Taikonaut, Yuhangyuan and Hangtian-yuan".

Hilarious, especially the 2nd term, IMHO.

Taikonaut is actually a merger of 2 words, as you might guess. And no, it's not Taiko + naut. It's actually the combination of Taikong - the Chinese word for outer space and naut.

And it's actually popular, due to it's easy nature to be pronounced among foreigners and it apparently alludes the to terms for the profession coined by existing space powers. However, Chinese officials are not particularly favouring this term, although it might win the wars of the names.

Now "Taiko" in Malaysian, as we all know is means big brother, more commonly used for those gang leaders. Hehe...So the literal meaning in Malaysian for "Taikonaut" is ... big brother sailor? This could possibly lead to some severe confusion among Malaysians.

Now what would Malaysian call their future astronaut? "Bolehnaut"?

On the other hand, China was the 1st to make noodles. Wohoo...now we have the Chinese people to thank for our Megi Goreng.

Archaeologists found ...get this, a 4,000 years old boiled strands of noodle covered by a bowl . The noodles are thin, around 0.3 cm, delicate and over 50 cm in length and yellow in color.

This tidbits is for you people who don't read newspapers, or missed those 2 articles. Enjoy!
